Thermia Heat Pumps, the Swedish ultimate energy provider, has collaborated with the young Swedish rally champion, Pontus Tidemand to challenge the top positions in WRC2 this past weekend, during Rallye de France -Alsace.
After a series of exceptional results, Pontus Tidemand was one of the favorites for the WRC2 victory in this year’s Rallye de France-Alsace and after a great start, there was no doubt that he was planning on being in the top battle. Unfortunately, the situation changed abruptly after an off on Friday, but despite that, Pontus showed his strength when he restarted the following day, took stage wins and finished in fourth place.
“This was far from what we had hoped for, but you can’t do anything other than recharge and make the most of the event based on the situation you find yourself in” says Pontus.
“We are very happy to support such a young talent, like Pontus,” shares Hans Wreifält, Thermia Export Director. “We have decided to stand behind Pontus Tidemand, because we believe we have a flair for what will be successful – just like when we know what will be the best product to release on the market. We believe Pontus has a great potential to become the next big rally star and we are happy to be his sponsors!”
Pontus Tidemand is the reigning FIA Junior World Rally champion after dominating the category in 2013. After finishing third the previous season, he won three rounds, claimed five podiums from a possible six and clinched the title with a rally to spare. In 2011, Pontus became the youngest driver, ever in history, to win the title Swedish Rally Champion and now is targeting the WRC top position.
Rallye de France-Alsace was held in the weekend 2-5 October 2014, attracting more than 200 000 spectators. To support Pontus, the Rally event joined a team from Airwave, the official partner of Thermia for Latvia and Estonia. Next to the Rally itself, the partners had the unique opportunity to visit Pontus’ pit stop, as well as to enjoy a personal meeting with the young champion – a once in a life experience they would never forget!
